The last event of the season is the Annual General Meeting and this gives members the opportunity to make any comments or suggestions that occur to them. Now, over the past few years we have made the Annual General Meeting as attractive as possible by inviting a young musician to give a 45 minute recital which is preceded by a Wine and Food Party held in St Mary’s Church Hall. At the July 2007 Annual General Meeting and Concert some 200 Members turned up and had a most enjoyable evening.

This season we have invited the brilliant young flautist Adam Walker to give the short recital. Adam was born in Nottinghamshire in 1987 and taught himself to play the flute at the age of nine. A year later he entered Chetham’s School of Music, where he studied with Gitte Sorensen and in September 2005 he won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where he is currently studying with Michael Cox.

At the age of 14, in 2002, Adam became the youngest ever winner of the British Flute Society Competition and in 2003 won the Royal Over-Seas League prize for the woodwind player showing the most promise. In 2004 he was a Concerto Finalist in the 2004 BBC Young Musicians Competition. He went on to give debut recitals at the Wigmore Hall, St George’s Bristol and to tour the Middle East.

As a soloist Adam has appeared with the Hallé Orchestra and with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. His recital work has included appearances with Iain Burnside at the Cadogan Hall, with the London Conchord in Conway Hall and with harpist Dally Pryce throughout the UK including concerts at Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall and in Paris and Madrid.
