Repeatedly cited for his musical intelligence, imaginative artistry and technical excellence, Danny Driver first attracted public attention in the United Kingdom by winning both the Royal Over-Seas League Competition Keyboard Award and the BBC Radio 2 Young Musician of the Year Competition in 2001, also making his debut at Wigmore Hall during the same year. He subsequently went on to distinguish himself at the Honens (2003), Brant (2004), Scottish (2004), and Dudley (2005) International Piano Competitions, and to establish himself in Britain with acclaimed recitals at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, and Wigmore Hall in London, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, and Symphony Hall in Birmingham, also appearing at numerous universities, festivals, and concert societies.Danny Driver’s first CD for Hyperion Records was recorded in 2007 and features English composer York Bowen’s 3rd and (for the first time) 4th Piano Concertos with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and conductor Martyn Brabbins. The record was released in November and has already received extensive critical acclaim (see press page). He has since gone on to record a complete survey of York Bowen’s Piano Sonatas (to be released in 2009), and is scheduled to record music by C P E Bach and Balakirev for Hyperion during 2009-10.

Danny Driver has collaborated with orchestras such as the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Tel-Aviv Soloists, the American Symphony Orchestra, and the New Professionals, occasionally directing Mozart and Haydn concertos himself from the keyboard. His 2008-9 season includes two appearances with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra performing Prokofiev’s 3rd Piano Concerto and the provigil US premiere of York Bowen’s 3rd Piano Concerto, over a century after its composition. Other recent engagements have included a performance of Howard Ferguson’s Concerto for Piano & Strings at the Hampstead & Highgate Festival and a third solo recital at London’s Wigmore Hall.

An avid and experienced chamber musician, Danny Driver is a founding member of the Linden Trio with which he has toured in central Europe and Scandinavia. He has enjoyed collaborations with the Linos Wind Quintet, clarinetist Sarah Williamson, violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky and ‘cellist Oliver Coates, with whom he gives a recital at Wigmore Hall in March 2009. Further chamber recitals during 2008-9 include concerts with the Linden Trio and clarinettist Michael Collins.

Trained by Alexander Kelly and Piers Lane whilst simultaneously gaining a first class degree at Cambridge University, Danny Driver was subsequently the recipient of a Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival and School, and the recipient of an Associated Board Scholarship for postgraduate study with Irina Zaritskaya at the Royal College of Music in London, where he distinguished himself as a prizewinner and later as an Amerada Hess Junior Fellow. He completed his studies privately with renowned pedagogue Maria Curcio.
